The tourist bus experience you never knew you needed.
While this bus’s wheels may not go round and round anymore, it can offer you a far more unique experience. A tourism bus turned cosy home isn’t a glow up we would’ve ever thought of, but now it’s become something we need to try out. [Featured image: Airbnb].
The little red bus was probably used to shuttling eager-eyed travellers around city sites, but this Airbnb super host, Arielle, has given it the lovely rural retirement it deserved. And, for anyone that loves to get out into nature, this striking spot might just be the perfect overnight stop off.
Sat in the heart of the woodland, the bus offers a comfortable, tranquil stay as you get out and explore the Banks Peninsula. It’s stationed as its own destination in a calm private garden, and lies just an hour outside of Christchurch.
After spending the night here, you’ll be able to continue exploring nature, hitting the bike trails or taking in the wonders of the Akaroa harbour, where you might catch some dolphins or penguins chiming in to say hello. Or, you could just hole up here for multiple nights as you hide from the world and dig into a thrilling novel with your morning coffee. However you choose to design your trip here, there’s no way you can lose.
You can’t ride this bus anywhere close, but that’s no problem. There’s Little River Café within walking distance, walking trails aplenty and a tavern to grab some food and drinks on top of everything else!
And, with enough room for one or two guests, this is just a wheely great spot to feel at home. Boasting bright walls to match the setting and the bus’s exterior, the bus will take great care of you. There’s a bathroom, shower, full-equipped kitchen, double-bed with linen and a pot-belly stove. Arielle, the host even offer guests yoga sessions, massages and more that you can pre-book.
Plus, to seal the deal, there are two cats that occasionally visit guests. Where do we sign up? Get me there right now.
