In Honour Of Pride Month Here Are The Best Gay Hangouts In Christchurch

Because being yourself is never the wrong thing to do.

New Zealand is an extremely progressive society, and remains overall LGBTQI-friendly. Though, Christchurch has a small gay nightlife scene because after the earthquake, many of the gay hangouts in the city were destroyed. Nevertheless, each year, Christchurch’s gay pride tends to get bigger and better. Hence why we tracked down some diverse gay hangouts for all you lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex folks to enjoy. Happy Pride Month!

1. Cruz

This nightclub is the only gay bar in Christchurch. Expect classic 80s themed discos, DJs playing top hits from the 70s right up until today, and plenty of partying. With a high standard, you’ll need to dress-to-impress in order to get into this joint. Although, many straight folks tend to visit because it was one of the only bars left standing after the earthquake. Despite this, it is a completely safe space for the gay community, which is noticeable by all the rainbow flags. Be sure to get a insta-worthy picture on the cute balcony space, overlooking Victoria Street.
