4. White Chicks
This 2004 blast from the past will have you in stiches no matter how many times you’ve seen it. It tells the tale of two FBI agents, Kevin (Shawn Wayans) and Marcus (Marlon Wayans), who land in hot water after upsetting two socialites they are escorting to the Hamptons. Then, the girls refuse to go so the FBI agents are forced to pose as the sisters.
5. Derry Girls
Another brilliant tale told from the streets of Ireland during the 1990s. The series is set amid the political conflict of Northern Ireland, where five secondary school students deal with the challenges of being a teenager at a catholic school. Indeed, one of the best Netflix comedies to watch.
6. Easy A
This 2010 blockbuster one of the best fun and fresh Netflix comedies to return to for some giggles. It is narrated by a 17-year old girl, Olive (Emma Stone), who is normally a good girl. After telling a lie to her wild best friend about losing her virginity, her life begins to change after a girl at school spread her lie.
This award-winning 2010 New Zealand independent film is set in 1984. It follows an 11-year old boy, a Michael Jackson fan with his head in the clouds. After discovering his father’s criminality and the fact he isn’t the hero he always imagined, Boy’s world turns upside-down. This movie is filled with both emotional and humorous moments offering the perfect balance.
8. Eight Grade
A 2018 comedy drama movie following 13-year-old Kayla as she navigates her way through middle school. After plucking up the courage to post of video about self-confidence online, she learns that she is not the person she pretends to be and tries to overcome her fears.
9. Ginny & Georgia
This treasured Netflix series follows an awkward 15-year-old Ginny Miller (Antonia Gentry) and her 30-year-old free-spirited mother, Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) as they settle down in New England after years on the run. Though, Georgia’s past threatens any sort of possibility of a normal life. Amongst the emotion and drama, expect to get plenty of bellyaches filled with laughter.
10. Murder Mystery
Watch a fantastic duo, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston portray a New York cop and his wife who go on a European trip to try and repair their marriage. The man called Buddy played by Nicholas Hope then escapes into the real world that is entirely unknown to him. Although, there are some hilarious parts to get you laughing.
14. Red Notice
This $200 million budget thriller movie is being absorbed by households around the globe. With a stellar cast, from Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson, and more…you know it’s going to be good. It comically follows an FBI agent on an adventure across the world, attempting the world’s most wanted art thief.
15. American Hustle
One of the funniest movies of 2014 is available to stream on Netflix New Zealand. It follows two con artists, played by Amy Adams and Christian Bale, who are forced, by an FBI agent (Bradley Cooper) to set up a sting operation on corrupt government officials. With a stellar cast, including Jennifer Lawrence and Jeremy Renner…you know you won’t be disappointed.
This romantic comedy is arguably, one of the most hilarious ever made. It tells the story of jobless Annie (Kristen Wiig), a single woman with a messy life. When her lifelong bestie, Lillian (Maya Rodolph) gets engaged, she is asked to be the Maid Of Honor. However, she faces conflict with one of Lillian’s other bridesmaid, the beautiful and rich, Helen (Rose Byrne) who would rather lavish celebrations. This 2007 comedy blockbuster never gets old. It follows three nerdy best friends, while they navigate their last few weeks of high school. When they are invited to a huge party, they go on a mission to try and secure alcohol, to impress girls, and get some sex before college. Unfortunately, they end up in serious ropes of trouble. The hilarious dialogue, McLovin’s epic one-liners and memorable characters will have you rolling off the couch.
18. I, Tonya
Starring Margot Robbie, this drama comedy film is based on a true story. It tells the real-life scandalous events of talented figure skater Tonya Harding, who was the first American woman to complete a triple axel. However, in 1994, her life turned upside-down after her ex-husband planned an attack on her Olympic competition, Nancy Kerrigan, that forced her to withdraw. Tonya’s attitude is enough to put you into fits of laughter.
19. Ted 1 & 2
This entertaining masterpiece tells the story of a teddy bear who comes to life after his owner, John, wished that he could talk as a child. However, in adulthood, Ted clings to John, and is not prepared when John’s girlfriend wants Ted to move out. This leads the way for the story to follow over two movies. Therefore, for 24 hours they must say yes to everything the kids want to do. This sets the chaotic scenes ahead. This relatable and funny romantic American comedy stars Zoey Deutch and Glenn Powell. It follows the pair as overworked and underpaid assistants in New York, who team up to try and get their bosses to fall in love, and in turn, give them a little bit of a break and more freedom. For the adults that love animation, this comedy adventure flick is for you. Bizarrely, it tells the story of talking food items in a local supermarket.
